Sanming College began construction in February 2003 with the consent of the Development Planning Department of the Ministry of Education. On May 18, 2004, the Ministry of Education approved the Fujian Provincial People's Government to agree to upgrade Sanming College to Sanming College. It was formally established on June 28, 2004.
Sanming College, the predecessor of Sanming College, was formed by the merger of Sanming Teachers College, Sanming Vocational College, and Sanming Teachers College in September 1999. It was officially established on October 15, 2000. It is the largest school in Fujian Province and has the most disciplines College of Technology.

Sanming Normal School
The predecessor was the Quanmin Normal School, which was sponsored by Chen Baochen in the 29th year of Guangxu of Qing Dynasty (1903). The original site is located in Wushishan, Fuzhou. It was the earliest normal school established in Fujian Province and the first normal school established in the country at that time. It is known as the “source of Fujian teachers”. In July 25th of the Republic of China, Fuzhou, Jian'ou and other normal schools were merged into Fujian Provincial Normal Schools. In March 27th of the Republic of China, the provincial normal school moved to Yongan, and in 31 years of the Republic of China it was renamed the provincial Yongan Normal. After the founding of New China, the people's government took over. After the "Cultural Revolution" began in 1966, Yongan Normal School stopped enrolling for a time. In November 1971, the Fujian Provincial Revolutionary Committee decided to resume the Sanming Teachers 'School on the basis of the former Yongan Teachers' School.
Sanming Teachers College
Formerly known as the Sanming Teachers College, it was founded in the fall of 1977 and the first enrollment was 500. Since 1981, schools have gradually started to run independently. In December 1983, with the approval of the provincial government, the Sanming Teachers College was officially established. Twelve majors including Chinese, Political and Religious Studies, English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, History, Geography, Physical Education, Music, and Fine Arts. The school system was two-year, first changed to three-year in 1982, and returned to two-year in 1985.
Sanming Vocational University
Founded in July 1983. The school is located in the northern campus of Jingyuan Dongyuan Agricultural College in Sanming, covering an area of 16,154 square meters. It is a vocational college, facing the whole city, and for enterprises and institutions. It trains highly needed and qualified professionals in rural areas. The school-run principles of self-funded, day-to-day, non-inclusive distribution, and merit-recommended employment are local, professional, and comprehensive. Cement, chemical engineering, industrial and civil construction, electrical engineering, Chinese secretary, English, business management, cadre specialization, textile, medical, etc. have been successively opened.
